The ISTC Secretariat was invited to present at the "Regional Workshop on Biosafety and Biosecurity in Life-Science Research" in Islamabad, Pakistan on April 26th, 2016. The 3-day workshop was co-organised by the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (IESCO) and the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS).
The event was targeted at University-level students and researchers actively involved in biotech, clinical and veterinary research in Pakistan. Active discussions, a poster competition and case study examples were presented on Biosafety and Biosecurity training, risk management, ethics, regulations and use in sustainable scientific research. Dr Graeme Frith, who represented the ISTC, commented that "the meeting clearly demonstrated the commitment of the Pakistani scientific community to train its future generation of bioscientists to the highest international standards".
ISTC used this meeting also to discuss with Pakistan experts potential participation in EU CBRN CoE Biosafety and Biosecurity Project 53.
