The CBRN Centres of Excellence Risk Mitigation Project 53, funded by the European Union and managed by the International Science and Technology Centre (ISTC), carried out a training workshop on "Biosafety management of extremely dangerous infectious patients" in Karaganda city on September 17-21, 2018.
The training was provided by Dr Kim Antonina (head of Karaganda Medical University Infectious Diseases Department) and Maukayeva Saule (head of Semey Medical University Infectious Diseases Department) in cooperation with Prof Dmitrovskiy Andrey (P53 Project manager) from the Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University The training was developed in cooperation with the EU Team of Experts of Project 53.
During the workshop, 22 doctors from Karaganda and it´s districts were trained in advanced biosafety techniques, such as: principles of sampling, packaging, transportation of Extremely Dangerous Infectious Diseases patients samples, Risk Assessment associated with anthrax, plague, hemorrhagic fevers and brucellosis.
Additionally, participants discussed the situation on the implementation of the module on Biosafety and Biosecurity in the medical universities of Karaganda and Semey.
All participants received official certificates from the EU CBRN Centers of Excellence Initiative.
