The EU CBRN Centres of Excellence Project 53 (P53) Implementation Unit in Mongolia (PIU) in cooperation with Mongolia's National Biosafety Committee (NBC) organized a Training-workshop on "Biosafety and biosecurity" during 6 and 7 of November 2018 in Ulaangom city located in Uvs aimag. Fifty-six professionals participated in the workshop representing the local Center for Zoonotic Diseases, Emergency Management Administration, Inspections Department, Customs Office, Environment and Tourism Departments, Food and Agriculture Department, Veterinary Office, Health Department and Laboratories of the joint hospitals from Khovd, Zavkhan, Khuvsgul, Bayan-olgii, Govi-Altai, Uvs and Bayankhongor aimags.
The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Namsrai TSERENBAT, Minsiter of Environment and Tourism, and Head of National Biosafety Committee and T. NYAMSAMBUU Deputy Governor of Uvs aimag. The training program focused on theoretical and practical understanding of biosafety and biosecurity, laboratory biosafety and biosecurity. Other topics included human, livestock, and zoonotic related infectious diseases, infectious agent biohazard levels, bioterrorism and bioethical issues and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear risk mitigation, including field practical demonstrations on biosafety and biosecurity. The successful training-workshop was organized by PIU, P53 project trainers and project experts who were actively involved in its implementation.
This workshop is part of larger program developed under Project 53, between the Mongolian National Team of Experts, with support from the EU Team of Experts, that aims to reach professionals across Mongolia and provide them advance instructions on Biosafety and Biosecurity issues. The Project 53 was conceived and funded by the European Union within the framework of the EU CBRN CoE (www.cbrn-coe.eu) initiative.
