As a Member of the United Nations, Mongolia ratified the ‘Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety’ in 1972 and ratified the Biological Weapons Convention, as an outcome, the Government founded the National Biosafety Committee (NBC). The NBC has been operating under the Ministry of Nature, Environment and Tourism to reduce the risk of biological contingency threats, improve disaster prevention, preparedness, and post-disaster management. It also works to strengthen the national legal environment to address complex issues, and consolidate the capacity of institutions and human resources, as well as tightening controls.
The P53 Project Implementation Unit in Mongolia in cooperation with NBC started to organize the Training-workshops on "Biosafety and biosecurity" for government and non-governmental organizations since April 2018.
The P53 Mongolia PIU organized the Training-seminar on "Biosafety and biosecurity" on 15th June 2018. The training program consisted of theoretical practical understanding on Biosafety, Biosecurity; Human, livestock, zoonotic related infectious diseases, infectious agent biohazard level, Bioterrorism and bioethical issues and CBRN risk mitigation.
